Kurtis is a certified Permaculture Designer, Organic Master Gardener, Herbalist and Water Restoration Practitioner. He is a creative designer, with an eye for detail, a problem solver and a lover of integrating critical ecosystem functions into his projects.
He is particularly interested in designing and installing water harvesting earthworks wherever he can for the beauty and life they bring.
In 2009, Kurtis began his journey with urban gardening in Vancouver before working with ecological landscaping companies on Vancouver Island. This experience ignited his passion for permaculture and regenerative land-based practices, which he applies professionally today.
Kurtis has trained with mentors like Javan Bernakevitch of All Points Land Design, Regenerative Living & Permaculture BC and Richard Walker, renowned designer, food forester & herbalist. He continued training as a(n) herbalist with Jessy Delleman of Ravensong Seeds & Herbals before diving into Advanced Digital Ecological Design with Daniel Halsey and Weruschca Kirkegaard from United Designers International. Recently, he has studied Decentralized Water Retention Systems with Zach Weiss of Elemental Ecosystems & Water Stories, where he continually seeks to broaden his understanding and contribute to the harvesting and management of this vital resource.
We envision a world where people provide for themselves and their community—right from their own place of living, business or otherwise.
If people collectively provide more of their own needs, in an ecologically supportive way, it will lessen the burden on the planet while bolstering local economies.
Our goal is to provide consultation, design and build services to people seeking self-sufficiency, and businesses/developers wanting to make a positive ecological impact, but don't know where to start and/or need help along the way.
We do this through analysis and design of land-based systems that emulate natural ecosystems, promote biodiversity, and provide people with the resources they need— food, water, medicine, fiber/building materials and a healthy, robust ecosystem from which all energy is drawn from and returned to.
